1. Suitcases
If you are taking multiple suitcases, spread each persons clothes across each suitcase rather than 1 case per person. That way, if you lose a suitcase (we’ve all read the stories lately), you will all still have clothes. We have a great suitcase cover, £500 if luggage is lost, and £50 if delayed. Read more.
2. Be wary of public Wi-Fi
Don’t let the convenience of Internet access cloud your judgment. When you use public Wi-Fi, hackers looking to steal valuable information can access your data, including credit card and personal information. If you do need wireless Internet service, set up a virtual private network (VPN) that will allow you to access the Internet securely while traveling. You can get these just for travel.
3. Patience is important
Patience is one of our top travel tips. Don’t let things you can’t control get to you and ruin your holiday. Flight delayed, bus cancelled, don’t worry, another will be along soon. Life is too short to be angry & annoyed while traveling.
4. Learn about where you are staying
The internet provides with a wealth of knowledge and past visitors. Check google maps of the area in street view, see what others recommend seeing in forums and review websites.
5. Observe daily life around you
If you really want to get a feel for the pulse of a place, one of my favourite travel tips is to spend a few hours sitting outside a restaurant, in a park or on a busy street corner just watching life happen in front of you.
6. Take lots of travel photos
Pay attention to this travel tip. You may only see these places & meet these people once in your lifetime. Remember them forever with plenty of photos! Don’t worry about looking like a “tourist”. Great photos are the ultimate souvenirs – and print some out when you get home! I backup to amazon photos, every day I get a reminder of previous years, it often means it’s time to book a holiday!
6. Break out of your comfort zone
Challenge yourself to try things that normally give you anxiety. The more you do this, the more that anxiety will fade away. Don’t like boats, go on a short boat trip, try watersports, go off the beaten track a bit. Have trouble talking to strangers? Talk to everyone. Scared of weird food? Eat the weirdest thing you can find – I always sample something new on holiday, sometimes I even like it!
7. Learn a few foreign words
There’s no need to be fluent in order to visit a foreign country. However, one tip I’ve learned is to learn a few phrases in the local language can improve your travel experience. Hello, please, thank you, excuse me, sorry, can really help. The locals will like you for it – even if you do get them wrong. Plus, most phones have google translate now.
8. Take an extra credit or ATM card
Having your bank card details stolen can suck, but especially if it happens when you’re visiting a foreign country. If your card gets frozen, stolen, or the ATM machine eats it, it will impact your holiday. Or, get a pre paid card like Revolut. Leave one in your safe just in case.
9. Bring a powerful power bank
A power bank is a device that can help you charge your phone when on the go. This device is particularly useful during traveling because even if you do take your phone charger with you, it could drain more. Plus most things charge via USB now.
10. Always get Travel Insurance
No one ever thinks they’ll get sick, injured, or lose things while traveling. With good travel insurance you don’t have to worry about huge hospital bills or stolen gear when it eventually happens. For all kinds of trips ranging from a weekend up to a few months long, we always recommend picking up a travel insurance policy. You can get a quote here with Just Travel.
